OUR TEAM

Rey was born in the Dominican Republic, where he excelled as both a shortstop and a second baseman. In both Little League and Babe Ruth, Rey represented the Dominican Republic in four international baseball tournaments. As a freshman in high school, Rey played on the varsity team, leading his squad in batting average, hitting four home runs, and leading the league in stolen bases. At 16, Rey represented the Dominican Republic in a year-long Canadian International Baseball Tournament.

In 1987, Rey spent time at the Oakland Athletics Baseball Academy in the Dominican Republic. At the age of 17, he signed with the New York Yankees as a free agent. His first team with the Yankees played in the Gulf Coast League, where he batted .289 in his first year and .340 in his second. In 1992, his Yankee team played in the AA Eastern League in Albany, NY.

After his professional baseball career, Rey played fast-pitch softball and made the All-American team for four consecutive years. In 2002, he received the Outstanding Defense Award for his play at shortstop. Also that year, Rey was nominated for Athlete of the Year as part of the Golden Glove Award. In 2004, he played for the Runner-Up team in the ASA Softball National Title Tournament. Rey also participated in the 2005 World Fast-Pitch Tournament in Milwaukee and was invited to play shortstop for the US Olympic Softball Team. In 2006, the US went undefeated and won the Gold Medal in an international tournament in which Rey won the Batting Title with a .583 average.

Rey has been a lead instructor for the past 15 years and has sent numerous baseball players to Division I, II, and III colleges across the country. He currently works personally with 12 collegiate-level players from all over the country, the majority of whom are playing Division I collegiate baseball. Over the last five years, four of Rey’s players have been drafted by various MLB organizations.

In softball, Rey has also sent numerous players to Division I, II, and III programs. He built the New England Blazers softball program and was the head coach of the 18U showcase team. He has conducted numerous coaching clinics in Massachusetts, including a hitting exposition for USA Massachusetts. Finally, Rey was awarded the USA affiliation for the All-Star Sports Academy and the New England Blazers.

Mike Freire is a highly distinguished professional Baseball and Softball instructor who has dedicated his career to fostering talent and developing skills in young baseball elite Players 

 

Mike founded and operated The Farm Baseball Performance Institute - an indoor baseball training facility - where he trained and developed baseball athletes ranging from 10-year-olds to collegiate and professional players. His comprehensive approach and battle-tested curriculum focused on all facets of training, specializing in elite-level swing mechanics, utilizing his in-depth knowledge of the professional baseball swing and his fundamental understanding of kinesiology. Coach Mike also teaches the mental approach to hitting success, proper fielding fundamentals, defensive strategies, and base running techniques. He is also noted for his expertise in developing high-level pitchers to achieve maximal velocity, employing effective force generation while prioritizing arm injury prevention.

 

Additionally, Mike founded the Minutemen Baseball Elite Development Program, where, through his training program, he successfully developed and placed over 100 athletes onto college baseball rosters. His coaching has not only opened doors for many young players but also paved the way for several of them to pursue professional baseball careers. With a profound dedication to the game and a wealth of knowledge, Mike Freire continues to be a transformative influence in the world of baseball training and athletic development.

 

As a coach:

 

Coach Mike has been coaching travel baseball at all age levels (11U-18U) for more than 20 years and has been fortunate enough to see many of his teams bring home league championships (NEEBL, NB Select) and tournament trophies. He has guided his teams to victory all along the east coast, including New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. 

Mike has also served as Head Coach at the high school varsity level, as has coached collegiate players in summer leagues. 

 

Coach Mike grew up in Brighton, MA, and lives in Sudbury, MA, with his wife and two children.

Abraham Orlando Núñez Adames

Abraham Orlando Núñez Adames is a Dominican former professional baseball third baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1997 to 2008 for the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Mets.

Núñez appeared in 630 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1996 to 2004. In 2008, he played briefly for the Mets, making two pinch-hitting appearances.

 

On May 11, 2009, he agreed to play for the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League. Later that month, he signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The following year, on March 5, 2010, he joined the New Jersey Jackals of the independent Canadian-American (Can-Am) League.

 

Coaching Career

Núñez began his coaching career in 2012 within the Kansas City Royals organization as the hitting coach for the DSL Royals of the Dominican Summer League. He has since held the same position at multiple levels:

  • 2013: Burlington Royals (Rookie Level)

  • 2014: Lexington Legends (Low-A)

  • 2015–2019: Wilmington Blue Rocks (Advanced-A)

 

As of 2022, Núñez serves as the hitting coach for the Royals' Double-A affiliate, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

In the off-season, he has also contributed as bench coach for the Gigantes del Cibao of the Dominican Winter League, where he was part of the 2015 National Championship-winning team.

 

Personal Instruction

In addition to professional coaching, Abraham teaches hitting and pitching for both baseball and softball.
